Why flies matter
Flies are too often tolerated in our homes. Apart from biting flies, they feed by spitting saliva onto food and sucking up the liquid, contaminating it with bacteria from their gut and feet. In food premises that is a real hygiene risk.
Cluster flies
Cluster flies are common in rural homes around the Fens. In autumn they gather in large numbers in lofts, roof spaces and upstairs rooms to spend the winter, and they wake up and appear at windows on warm days. They do not breed indoors, but they come back to the same buildings year after year. We treat roof spaces in autumn and advise on proofing.
Keeping flies down at home
- Keep food covered and clear up spills straight away
- Use bins with tight-fitting lids and keep them away from doors and windows
- Fit fly screens to windows you keep open
- Deal with pet waste and compost promptly
Fly control for businesses
For food premises, we supply and service ultraviolet electric fly killers and fit high-quality retractable insect screens. A maintenance contract covers regular visits to inspect, clean and test units, plus the annual replacement of UV tubes, which lose their pull long before they stop glowing.
